Default Newer Ubuntu!

I do have a simple request.. well, maybe it's not so simple, but it's worth it.

How about a version that supports newer releases of Ubuntu officially?

6.06 LTS is ANCIENT nowadays, and people are leaving it behind.

What's preventing newer releases from being officially supported, especially since one of the CentOS threads says "use Ubuntu?" :-)

We support Ubuntu LTS releases. 8.04 will be the next LTS release, so that will be the next release of Ubuntu we'll support.

Umm, because the 6 month release cylce is too frequent to keep a stable product? Hence the LTS title (long term support) which means Zimbra techies can set up a semi-automated build system, fine-tune it, and only have to do it once every two years.

On a 6 month cycle, the quirks specific to that version of the OS will most likely only just be ironed out at the end of the 6 months.

Excellent! This is great news. Will Zimbra be supporting it on the day of release or should I wait a couple weeks?

Why so haste, Ubuntu Dapper is outstanding for server deployment compared to later releases :-)
But bad news for you is that Ubuntu 8.04 LTS will be supported with Zimbra 5.5 (targeted on 4Q 2008) according to roadmap. I am going to test Ubunty Hardy for a while and probably use it as Dom0 for Xen with Zimbra on Ubuntu Dapper inside DomU. We will see :-)

You can track Bug 23154 - Ubuntu 8.04 - Hardy Heron for the status of 8.04 support.

Ancient?! It's stable and widely used in either a minimal server config or a lamp variety (or countless other ways). Newer doesn't necessarily mean better; especially if what you using works perfectly well.

If Zimbra can take these FreeBSD Patchset for Zimbra released! and maintain it that would be super.

I think there's already plenty of Linux distribution support available, RHE, SUSE, Ubuntu, Debian, Mandriva, Fedora

I second that. The stability and speed of freebsd is awesome !

It sounds as if you don't think that LTS releases get security bugfix updates...

If you are smart, you don't just leave boxes around without keeping up with the patch flow, even if you aren't on autoupdates.
