NEW POLL: What OS port should be next?

i got sick of dragging down new source tarballs and having to restart the patching all over again. i'm waiting for the new source tree to open, looks like it will be soon.

Has anyone ever contacted the author of this blog entry to see how he did it? Apologies if that's not what you're building for but I know absolutely nothing about Solaris, I'm just interested how they can do it so quickly.

i assume they're running redhat linux within a solaris zone. kind of defeats the point, if not and they have 'ported' it they haven't given it back to the 'community'.

I know Zimbra already made their statement on what they will be porting next, but I really don't see how (as the blog stated) they can have a Mac port before a Solaris port? Is that really true?

I'm wondering if the new acquisition from Yahoo will give them the funding they need to support this on Solaris. I personally believe they'll grow a larger enterprise customer base with Solaris than Linux. Besides, there's already plenty of "re"packaging tools in the linux community to practically build this on any flavor, if someone really wanted it. It's not the same for Solaris. just my .02....

I used Linux for one reason and one reason only. Solaris cost too much. Then Sun changed the way they licensed Solaris. So I'm back using Solaris.
I have been able to port every open source program easily to Solaris. Including tinydns and qmail. btw check blastwave.org you might save yourself some time. I'll make a zone and see if I can get this working since Zimbra isn't taking the time.
Amazing they choose mac os over Solaris. Hello Solaris is an enterprise operating system. ZFS BABY! Anyone that has done any work on this should start a post over at opensolaris.org under discuss you'll get a lot of sun engineers excited about it and they are very helpful.

And author of the blog is my boss. He suggested 'owerwriting' java files in solaris installation with what RHEL-5 64-bit zimbra recent network edition has. This was your build 4.5.4_GA_754.SOLARIS10.TEST2_i386, with java files owerwriten by something like 4.5.9 network edition, I don't remember exactly. We still have no luck to use 5.0.2 builds to upgrade existing installations.

Ah I see, we assumed someone had managed to get zimbra running in a linux branded zone
