Zimbra Thunderbird address book sync

I want to synchronize Zimbra and Thunderbird Address book. I had already configured thunderbird for imap email and for calendar synchronization, but address book sync is still missing. Export and import address book is not enough for the enterprise solution I need.

Does anybody have this problem too?

Just like the poster above, I can get everything to sync with T-bird except contacts. This should be a easy fix, no?

unfortunately not. your contacts in zimbra are held in sql, not ldap, so there's no obvious mechanism for synch. a thunderbird plugin or zimbra ldap proxy would be necessary.

i vaguely remember there's an openldap proxy for mysql. i wonder if zimbra has a resident openldap expert that might be able to point us in the right direction

Certainly - it's all open source. If you download the .xpi file and unzip it you'll find a .jar file. Unzip that and you find the javascript.

If you are having trouble getting Zindus to work, try removing any LDAP address books from Thunderbird.

I had the Zimbra GAL set up as an LDAP address book, and this caused Zindus to fail. By removing the GAL, I got my personal address books to sync, and the GAL comes from Zindus as well.
