Zimbra and JMS

Does Zimbra expose a Java API that we can use to implement a JMS based messaging system so as to leverage Zimbra server features as well as to integrate User information across multiple applications internally.
Assuming we use Zimbra as our primary 'User' datasource, we would like to kick of a JMS based message that other internal servers can subscribe to. Is this architecturally feasible within the Zimbra Collaboration Suite ? Do we need to write seperate plug-ins ?
