Unfortunately I can still see this takeover happening... eventually.
Maybe 2-3 years down the line. And the takeover itself would still take over a year to formalise/complete.

So this has definitely given me a bit more ambition to get Zimbra in!
I've really wanted to switch to Zimbra, but we've got budget issues at the moment. I'd want to buy new hardware for Zimbra to live on
But this definitely puts Zimbra back on the map for us, right in pole position!

We actually want the Network Pro edition with the Zimbra Mobile stuff though, which is all the juicy closed-source stuff for ActiveSync etc.

I would like to see the open-source licenses revised and "made safe" for the future though, as the work that's gone in to Zimbra is too good to lose.

Tactical move by Ballmer. Personally, I don't see a point for paying that much for Yahoo. This should drive the price down in next few months. I'm not sure that Yahoo can perform good enough through this year to be able to live through another attack.

Seriously, whoever marked this thread as SOLVED, needs to undo that. Yahoo is going to get owned probably sooner than later. They were just trying to push to see how much they could get, and now that Ballmer has backed off, they are trying to bring him back to sign the deal.

Two can play at tactics. If Yang were to say, "we resisted because we just don't like MS," how do you guys think that would be received by Yahoo's institutional investors?

It seems possible, maybe even probable, that the board was, in fact, very much opposed to any merger, and that this whole thing has been posturing in order to minimize contingent legal hassles down the line.

Which is not to say that Yahoo won't eventually get acquired or restructured, as publicly traded firms often are. Just take what the Chairman says with a big fat grain of salt, especially when it is said to a reporter at a time like this.

Default $34 a share...

Latest news is that Yahoo is not only looking like it's now courting Microsoft, but they're willing to accept $34 a share. Maybe it's not over after all! Seriously, apart from the "don't worry everybody, everything's gonna be ok" announcement from a few months ago, has Zimbra made any commitments or indications of what they'll do or how they'll allow for future Zimbra development in a Microsoft world? Are we going to get this license thing fixed, or are we just going to let this happen?

maybe it is better MS quickly take over yahoo so we all can stop worrying and move on. After all zimbra has never show anything to resolve this issue. It is not like another 3 months going to make any difference.
