Multiple Alarms in iCal (CalDav)

I have a few shared calendars for which I have manager privileges. Events in these shared calendars do not have event reminders in Zimbra.

When synchronizing these events to iCal using the iSync connector they all come across with a 10 minute reminder. This setting can be modified in iCal's preferences | check box "Add a default alarm to all new events and invitations". However at times, some events carry over multiple alarms for the exact same event. It can be as high as 15 alarms all opening up at the same time. Has anyone else experienced similar behavior?
