Default [SOLVED] Problems with isync and shared calendars

Hello all,

our company is about to deploy the network edition to our users. While everything works fine with IMAP, the web front-end and the Outlook connector, we have problems with the sync of shared calendars via the iSync connector.

Some technical details:
We are running server version 4.5.6_GA_1023 under Mac OS X (workstation OS, not the server version), the clients are running 10.4.8 to 10.4.10 and Connector 4.5.6 GA 1020.

What I did to share a company calendar:
- created a user who owns a calendar named "Company" (this user is only owning and sharing the calendar and address book - some kind of a role-account).
- had this user sent sharing announces to other users
- the other users each logged into web frontend and clicked "accept share" in the mail window.
- shared calendar shows up as intended in both web frontend and outlook, with appropriate access rights (read, write, edit and create new appointments)

I think this is the canonical way to share a calendar? Something wrong with that?

Problem is still that the calendar named "Company" refuses to show up in the client's iCal and it neither shows up in the sync pref-pane. Strangely enough, on some machines the appointments do show up, although in the wrong calendar and only with read permissions.

I already tried the "reset sync history" as advised in this forum - to no avail.

Did I do something wrong?
Is there a known bug with iSync?
Has anyone similar problems?
Any hints?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

The version of the iSync Connector that you are using does not support shared calendars.

Shared calendar support will be added in the upcoming 5.0 release.

Ah, thanks. It cannot work then
Do you have a (approximate) timeframe when this feature will be available?

And is there another way to sync shared calendars between zimbra and apple clients?

Can you try subscribing to the calendar in iCal?

As for timelines, unfortunately I don't have that information.

Take care,

Scott

Think so. But that's a read-only access?
(better than nothing anyway)

Thanks sculi

Yep...read only access. But like you said...better than nothing!

Take care,

Hi sculi2000,

I am just curious: as there's a release candidate of Zimbra 5.0 available: is calendar write access for the iSync connector already implemented? If not, is there some beta available?

There's some users of mine (including my boss) that are constantly nagging me about iSync calendar write support

Default iSync for Multiple Calendars

I'm happy to report that the new beta of the iSync connector 5.00 Beta 4.1496 DOES sync multiple calendars to iCal (at least it does while using ZCS v4.57). It does this by creating separate calendars in iCal too!!

Hello all,

Today I synced my iPhone with the Zimbra Calendar. I have 1 own Zimbra Calendar, all others are shared from the other users. I use iTunes to sync my iPhone with the Zimbra Server. I can only sync my own calendar all the shared ones are not available to sync. How can I also sync the shared calendars? Is this even possible ?

I doubt it's possible with iTunes. You could sync over the air via CalDAV but that has a bug (the "year 2145 bug") that you can search on for details; Zimbra 6.0 should include a workaround, and maybe Apple will fix it in iPhone 3.1.

Because of the bug, though, at the moment the best way to access a shared calendar from iPhone is using Safari, thus:

http(s)://<servername>/home/<full_username>/<calendarname>.html

E.g.

Code:
https://zimbra.company.com/home/user@company.com/Calendar.html
Bookmark it and you're good to go.
