Default Open Source Collaboration Meets VoIP

Quote:
A new partnership between Zimbra and Asterisk is helping to bridge the gap between text- and voice-based collaboration.
Quote:
Thanks to a new collaboration between the two, Zimbra users together with Asterisk now have voice capability from within their Zimbra-based calendars, e-mails and contacts. Zimbra users can click-to-call individual numbers, initiate conference calls by selecting groups of contacts or a meeting entry on a calendar and can also directly access voicemail.
Did I miss something, has anyone else seen or tried this? Full details of the announcement here It looks very interesting.

I hasn't hit the released builds yet, but it's real. Click to dial, voicemail integration, drag'n'drop, etc, in zimlety goodness. No mods to your asterisk server required.

Sounds really cool, I was thinking of getting an asterisk server later in the year - can't wait.

Default Cisco Call Manager?

We are going with a hosted VoIP solution with SBC (now AT&T) that uses the Cisco Call Manager.
Is there plans for integration with this?
Thanks
Derek

Don't know anything about cisco call manager, but if it's SIP based, then we should integrate with it out of the box.

Default Protocol goodness

By default Cisco uses h.323 protocol not SIP. It is possible to use SIP with Cisco, but it involves a lot of config hacking.

Default Cisco, SIP and interoperability fun !

Cisco use a protocol called Skinny, Avaya use H.323, Mitel use MINET etc etc etc However most of the vendors have some sort of SIP interoperability through native connections, trunks or gateways. Hopefully this Zimlet will work with ALL

I've been using asterisk for years now ( we were setting up asterisk on WRT-54G routers back in college ) and this is pretty cool.

Glad to see this integrated into Zimbra.

Nicely done!
