Summer Intern for Zimbra Engineering Team

Zimbra (www.zimbra.com), is a leading provider of email, calendaring and collaboration solutions for enterprises and service providers, and is an open source software company. We have 1500+ customers for the commercial version of our Zimbra Collaboration Suite, including large enterprises such as H&R Block; technology leaders such as Mozilla, MySQL and O'Reilly Media; hundreds of universities such as Georgia Tech and the University of Miami; and hundreds of hosting providers including ISPs with 1M+ users.

We seek a Sunnyvale, California-based paid summer intern to work with us this summer. The candidate will be exposed to the Zimbra engineering team and related technology. Tasks will be varied and will depend on the students interests and strengths. Some tasks may include ensuring that all of the zimlets that are packaged with the product are up to date, and adding new mash-ups and integrations. Zimbra frequently demos integrations and other experimental extensions that are used for training/demo purposes. The candidate will assist the Zimbra Engineering team in developing and maintaining these projects. The candidate may also assist the Zimbra Engineering team in developing new community themes for Zimbra Collaboration Suite and Zimbra Desktop.

Some potential responsibilities for the position include:
  • Creating visual designs for front-end applications
  • Maintaining Zimbra's repository of Zimlets and Themes
  • Working with the Engineering team to ensure Zimlets are packaged appropriately
  • Working with special project development engineers in project implementation

The successful candidate will have the following knowledge and expertise:
  • Fast learner, self-directed, work well with others
  • Strong HTML, CSS and JavaScript skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Zimbra Collaboration Suite installation and administration experience
  • Experience with Apache, Perl, PHP, JSP is a plus
  • Understanding of Linux/Mac server setup and administration
  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science
  • Planned graduation before 2010

A strong "can do" attitude and flexibility in the face of changing priorities and requirements
