Talking ZCS 5.0 FOSS is Released!!!

The Zimbra Team is very happy to announce Zimbra Open Source 5.0 GA is now available. Please be sure to read this announcement in full.

With about 5,000 bug fixes, and enhancements logged to our bugzilla, Zimbra 5.0 is by far the most feature packed and advanced version we've ever released.

As we release this version, please note that there are known issues, that are not resolved in this upgrade. They will be fixed in a future maintenance release. You should review these issues prior to your upgrade. If you would rather wait, we will be providing an update early next year.

We are only releasing the Open Source Edition at this time. We will release the Network Edition later this month. These downloads are only available to our forum community.

Zimbra strongly suggests that all users perform a full backup of their existing system prior to running the upgrade script. More Information here.

The upgrade time can vary greatly depending on how many users you have. You should plan accordingly.

At the time, upgrading from SUSE 9 ZCS 4.5.x to SUSE 10 ZCS 5.0, from Fedora Core 4 and 5 ZCS 4.5.x to Fedora 7 ZCS 5.0, and from Debian 3.1 ZCS 4.5.x to Debian 4.0 ZCS 5.0 are not supported.

Zimbra is working on the upgrade procedure for a smooth transition from 4.5 to 5.0. If you attempt this migration, it may fail.

If upgrading, please keep in mind that any customizations that you've done, such as altering configuration files, may not be migrated. You should back those files up.

Additionally, there are several component changes within Zimbra. If you are using Zimbra components (such as ldap or SOAP) in other services, please be sure to backup your configuration.

The upgrade script will remove any zimlets that are not compatible with Zimbra 5.0. Skins from 4.5 also may not work under 5.0.

Now that you've read all of this, and backed up your system, happy holidays:
