Spamassasin rule testing

I've created a few extra rules for spamassasin but I they don't seem to be working. Is there any way of debugging these / seeing stats etc.
So far I add the rules, and wait a day or so for more spam to come it, and then check the spam headers to see if my rules have been used. Most of the time they haven't. This is being a very slow process.

Any ideas?
