    Default main.cf "not owned by root" ?

    Hi there,

    Zimbra 4.5.5 - Centos4.5

    Configured zimbra as secondary system in Split Domain environment following this wiki link Split Domain - ZimbraWiki.

    After I did ....

    $ zmprov md example.com zimbraMailCatchAllAddress @example.com
    $ zmprov md example.com zimbraMailCatchAllForwardingAddress @example.com
    $ zmprov md example.com zimbraMailTransport smtp:mail.example.com
    $ zmprov mcf zimbraMtaRelayHost mail.example.com
    $ zmprov mcf zimbraMtaDnsLookupsEnabled FALSE
    (I did replace domain name and server with my own )

    $ postfix stop
    $ postfix start

    ... I cannot start Postfix anymore

    #postfix start
    postfix/postfix-script: warning: not owned by root: /opt/zimbra/postfix-2.2.9/conf/main.cf

    I checked permission and indeed they were
    -rw-r--r-- 1 zimbra zimbra 1673 Jul 5 23:10 main.cf

    I logged in as root and changed permissions to ....
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root postfix 1673 Jul 5 23:10 main.cf

    ... but as soon as I start Postfix, permissions are back to zimbra.zimbra

    Any idea?

    I noticed that same error too and it seems to be by design. You should not be running the processes manually, but use the zm based scripts.

    The particular zm script for starting and stopping postfix is :

    zmmtactl

    You will want to run this as user zimbra.

    Normally I just use:

    zmmtactl stop && zmmtactl start

    to restart the postfix services.

    I hope that helps.

    Yep-
    It's a trivial error, and as log as it's owned by Zimbra, you're okay.

    Trivial ?? Server was down actually not being able to start postfix. I had to reinstall whole thing once again. To many unknown things and reinstalls for my taste.

    Anyway, it's gone now, but it's not going to see production use at least for a year or so.

    hmm-
    Must have been something else.

    Typically, if there's a larger error, the error will say FATAL.

    Anyway, glad it's working
