Default Pieces of zimbra not available

    Hi

I've read about zmmsgtrace and I tried to use it, but its not availabe on the zimbra I have dealt with. Actually, lots of commands described in the zimbra administration guide are not available.

Is there any way to install it withouth risking a healthy zimbra? How can I install it?

As I have already told you, im not the actual administrator of zimbra, but im trying not to depend on the real administrator. So, my apologies for my silly questions

    Thanks in advance.

How are you checking if zmmsgtrace is available and what version/release are you running? I assume you're trying to run the commands as the zimbra user?
    Regards

Yes, as zimbra user. And I tried to find it with the locate command. Its answer was nothing (locate is updated).

Im not sure about what version of Suse and Zimbra I am using. I supose its openSuse. Is there any command wich displays that? Im going to discover if there is such command.

You need 'zmcontrol -v' for the zimbra version. There was a short period when zmmsgtrace wasn't included (a minor mistake on our part ) but it's been back in for a while. If you're on an older release then you should upgrade to 4.5.6 You should find the file in /opt/zimbra/bin or ~/libexec

    zmcontrol -v

    Release 4.0.5_GA_518.SuSEES9_20061218042754 SuSEES9 FOSS edition

    Too outdated, isnt it?

Anything keeping you from an upgrade?

(do a full backup of your /opt/zimbra and any linked folders first)

Yes, I have a recollection that was one of the versions that didn't have zmmsgtrace in it. If you're trying to find message details then the /opt/zimbra/log/zimbra.log would show the details (zmmsgtrace just uses the saved logging information). Anyway the best course of action would be an upgrade, lots of fixes and tweaking in the new release.

I'm not the guy who set the server up, and I don't want to be the guy who will screw it up... hehe
Maybe after acquiring a some knowledge

The server was set up by another company (third part, third company, I dont know how to say that in English).

If you're trying to find message details then the /opt/zimbra/log/zimbra.log
I was looking up for the messagens in the /var/log/mail and /var/log/zimbra.log, but I thought it was hard to create a good filter with grep command. Even after filtering the logs, it displayed too much useless information, whitch made it hard to identify the messages. Maybe it's just a matter of improving message filters.

Anyway, I was not used to seeing the logs in /opt/zimbra/log/. From now on I'm doing it.

    Thank you guys.

Your English is very good - it's third party (i.e. another person/company).

I think it's just a case of getting used to the log layout, it's fairly easy to find the details you require although zmmsgtrace is slightly easier. You'll find the utility when you upgrade.
