Can't create group - it already exists?

I'm trying to create a distribution group on the server and get the following curious errors:

$ zmprov gdlm support@mymail.co.uk
ERROR: account.NO_SUCH_DISTRIBUTION_LIST (no such distribution list: support@mymail.co.uk)

$ zmprov cdl support@mymail.co.uk
ERROR: account.DISTRIBUTION_LIST_EXISTS (distribution list already exists: support@mymail.co.uk)

So if I look for it, it doesn't exist but if I try to create it, I can't because it already exists

Any suggestions for solutions or where I should be looking to investigate further would be gratefully received.

Problem solved - another case of a misleading error message.

There was no support distribution list, but someone had added support as an email alias. Once the alias was deleted, I had no trouble creating the list.
