calendar alerts not popping up in outlook 2003

I attempted to make a calendar event in outlook 2003 and it will create the event however no reminder will pop up for the event when the event occurs. However while being logged into Webmail I'll see an alert for the event I just created in outlook.
But then when I also create the event through the web mail it will display reminders in both outlook as well as in the web mail.
Why is it that I can't get my calendar on both web mail and outlook to display alerts when I create the event in outlook?

Yeah, we currently don't sync reminders from outlook.
