| | |  The *ULTIMATE* 451 / convertd problem thread!
Hey people,
I've noticed a bunch of threads relating to the 451 error, which seems to be linked to the convertd process - none of them have actually got any kind of conclusive fix attached to them, so lets actually try and get to the bottom of this problem once and for all 
I have exactly the same problem, on a RHEL4 x86_64 machine. ZCS Network 4.5.3.
I've found that this error isn't consistent - not all emails with attachments get caught up in the deferred queue, and even more unbelievable, if I send the same email to different users on my Zimbra installation, some of the emails will get caught in the deferred queue, whilst others go through without any problems - so this obviously ISN'T anything to do with the specific attachment or missing libraries - because then it would fail for ALL recipients.
I've just performed a test - from my ISPs email account (lb@foo - which is has nothing to do with our Zimbra installation), I sent an email to one of our test customers (tk@baz), and attached the Zimbra outlook connector, I cc'd myself on the same email - to my own account on the Zimbra installation (lb@bar) - I've obfuscated email addresses and server names to protect the innocent The email was successfully received by the customer, but not myself - it's now sitting in the deferred queue. This is the SAME email that was successfully scanned and received by our test customer, on the SAME Zimbra installation. I can't understand how convertd can successfully process the attachment for one user, but not another.
I have managed to capture the relevant output in the logs : - /var/log/zimbra.log
- /opt/zimbra/log/convertd.log
- /opt/zimbra/log/convertd.out
- /opt/zimbra/log/zmconvertd.log
Hopefully, armed with this information somebody out there can suggest a reason and or fix so that we can all start processing our attachments properly.
In the meantime, does anybody know of a workaround to just STOP convertd from processing my attachments, so my users will still be able to use the service? (but with some reduced functionality)

I'd already raised a support case before I posted here... the reference is SF: Case 00013060: Vorari - Convertd errors
I was hoping that maybe somebody out there had the answer... or that if support could find the answer that this thread would actually serve to give a definitive fix for this error, which seems pretty common... but all the other threads to it don't contain satisfactory conclusions or fixes |

Convertd died for us yesterday "out of the blue". People only noticed because it was no longer allowing the sending of e-mails with attachments. I have saved the logs and info involved. Should I file a support case as well or is this a known issue and being worked on? This was in version 4.5.6. I've planned to upgrade to 4.5.7 this evening.
