Default Zimbra + Samba + changing passwords

Dear all,

I've installed Zimbra and Samba as described in UNIX and Windows Accounts in Zimbra LDAP and Zimbra Admin UI - ZimbraWiki

Mostly everything works fine, except the password change. Changing a password on a Windows machine works perfectly and the password is synchronized with the Unix/Zimbra password. But changing the password within Zimbra does only change the Unix/Zimbra password and NOT the Windows password.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks a lot,
Alex

This is a known problem. When you change password through Zimbra mail UI or through Zimbra Admin UI windows password is not changed. Possible work arounds at this point are
1 - always use Windows to change password
2 - write (I think there is one written already) a zimlet to change Windows password through Zimbra mail UI.
Please do file a bug on this issue.
Greg

One 'workaround' for this is to disable zimbra password changing for users in CoS, then that forces them to change passwords in Windows. Then use password synch in samba so that it updates ldap as well as windows, and optionally force password changes every couple of months or so. This keeps the passwords in synch.
