Question New Users - Not showing up in GAL (Active Directory)

Created a new user today and the account is not showing up in the GAL. LDAP goes through our DC.

- I create the account on the DC, including the email field.
- I create the email account on the Zimbra server.

However, searching the GAL does not show the new user. Any idea on how to fix this? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,
Rob

Just to add... We used to have an Exchange server - it is no longer running. All the old accounts were created when it was running (they are show up fine in the GAL).

Thanks,
Rob

Ok - I've looked at this for a few minutes and here's what I want to try.

- go into Configuration, Domains then my domain. Then go into "configure GAL) - it is currently set to "external only" - want to set it to BOTH. I am assuming this will work...

- Anything else I would need to configure?

- Do I need to restart any services? so I know to do this now, or in off hours?

Thanks for any help,

Rob

Question

Ok - I am now getting out of my league... Need a little help here.

I go into "Configure GAL" - select BOTH (want internal & external). Next window comes up - Active Directory looks good (is working). I need an LDAP filter - I check the help, it has a filter but I am unsure what to do here.

Can I just use the filter from the help file? Copy it?

Sorry about the continuing posts - been a very long day...

Any help appreciated,

Rob

There's a complete section on the wiki that describes how to build a filter.

Question

Thanks Bill,

Just curious though - is there some trick to adding users to Active Directory and having them show up in the GAL??? Just wondering if I am doing something wrong...

Thanks,
Rob

No, there should be nothing else to do other than point towards the AD server. It's been a while since I've used it but you should retrieve info from there without too many problems.

You may need to bind to AD, have a look at this info and see if that helps.

When you say 'adding users' I guess you mean adding them to AD via the normal windows methods and not via Zimbra?

Exactly. If I create a totally new user in AD, it does NOT show up in the GAL.

If I rename an old account, it will show up in the GAL. In essence, all the accounts originally created in Exchange (which is now gone) are present in the GAL, but none of the new accounts.
