The best thing you can do is to look in bugzilla and see if this was ever entered as an RFE, if not then feel free to enter it and vote on the item. That is the best method for getting enhancements noticed by zimbra.

I just voted for bug 1596. There is no current activity on this bug. Of course, if they would just allow the reading pane to be permantly disabled, there would be a work-around for this issue.

Well, if you use the conversation thread there is no reading pane and you get the messages left unmarked.

The Conversation thread has much to commend it. Your ceo won't have to search for replies to posts they'll already be together, more messages in the pane, they don't get marked as read inadvertantly.

and i see that we can check it out when we log in to zimbra..

can i disable that by default and dont need to tick it off everytime i logged in ?

Could anyone find this in the Bugzilla? I would also like to have this fixed. People prefer not to have messages automatically marked as read when they open Zimbra Web Client.

Turn the reading pane off, conversation view on and the message doesn't get marked as read.

Turning reading panel off is not a fix thats a work around..

Msg should not be maked read instantly, there should be a delay so if you just step down in the list you don´t read the messages but if you stop for 5 sek it should be marked as read.

Also, messages should not be marked read when i just change folder, that is not the same as reading a message.

No, it's not a 'workaround' - that's the current designed behaviour of the product. If you want a different behaviour then search bugzilla for any RFEs and if there aren't any then file one. If you want to see previous conversations in bugzilla about this 'feature' then search for fixed/closed bug reports.
