Default How to automatically check external POP accounts every n minutes

Hi there!

I am deploying a Zimbra 4.5 installation to serve various types of users. One of these is a mobile one, with a smartphone. And many other will show up pretty soon. Problem is that Zimbra is configured to check their work email thanks to the external POP account configured properly for each user.

When you use a PDA or a Smartphone, you've got no chance to click on the "Get Mail" button located on the Zimbra toolbar, due to PDA browser limitations. And AFAIK, as long as you don't push that button, you won't get any mail from any external POP account at all, not even relogging in!

So, I was just wondering how to activate autoretrieving of mail from external accounts every, say, 5 minutes. Is it possible? That would be awesome!

chmod 0710 .fetchmailrc

fetchmail -a -k -c (as yourself via cli)

if all goes well drop it into cron.

thanks for your reply, riegersteve.

Unfortunately, this solution is not easily viable for us, we have to deal with many users, and we can't deploy this for all of them: technically possible, pratically impossible, you understand...

What we'd really like is to know if it's possible to trigger the "Get Mail" button on the client side by timing it every n minutes. Or how to add a hyperlink that does that so that any PDA user could retrieve mail by clicking on it (maybe the best one, since we don't know how compatible the triggering code would be with the PDA browsers). After all, many other buttons are displayed on the PDA in form of hyperlinks, such as the "compose mail", "options" and so on.

I believe this would be more of a developer question. In case there's no ready solution integrated already in Zimbra, I'd ask the forum administrator to move my thread to the Developers one, if it's not too much of a hassle...

Thanks in advance!

Default Bugzilla!

This is bug 14527. If you'd like to see it implemented in the server, please vote for it!

No, it's not. Refresh your browser page (or clear the cache) and try again - it works for me.
