    Default Disabling Anti-Spam causing problem

    Hi all,

I enabled anti-spam for quite a few weeks, and every few days, the Zimbra server down itself, and most of the time at night time. It shows the error below:
"Date Time mail amavis[8427]: (08427-10) (!)SA TIMED OUT, backtrace: at /opt/zimbra/zimbramon/lib/Mail/SpamAssassin/BayesStore/DBM.pm line 594\n\teval {...} called at /opt/zimbra/zimbramon/lib/Mail/SpamAssassin/BayesStore/DBM.pm ... etc"
I have follow http://www.ijs.si/software/amavisd/ to disable opportunistic (automatic) Bayes auto-expiry at local.cf, but to no avail at all. And I'm not sure how to moving the database to SQL.

As a result, the only solution is to stop the spamassassin, as we have anti-virus/anti-spam running at gateway. I able to stop anti-virus without problem. However, when I tried to stop anti-spam at Zimbra admin console, the email delivery to mailbox stopped functioning immediately. It gave the errors below:
    "Date Time postfix/lmtp[14897]: 612552475A: to=<bbb@xxx.com>, relay=none, delay=1033, status=deferred (connect to mail.xxx.com[x.x.x.x]: Connection refused)
    Date Time mail postfix/lmtp[14898]: CFF8024ABD: to=<aaa@xxx.com>, relay=none, delay=1088, status=deferred (connect to mail.xxx.com[x.x.x.x]: Connection refused)"
I've searched through the forum seems like don't have similar solution.

Can assist me to stop anti-spam without affecting the email delivery?
    Many thanks.

    Hi kimkeez,

Welcome to the forums. Can you post the platform and zcs version you are runnning? zmcontrol -v.

To disable antispam/antivirus, toggle them off in the Admin Console and then restart the mta so that the config is rewritten. (zmmtactl restart).

If all else fails do a complete zmcontrol stop/zmcontrol start.

    Hi Brian,

    Here's the requested info
    "Release 4.5.4_GA_763.SuSEES9_20070323135217 SuSEES9 FOSS edition"

I have disabled antispam/antivirus and toggle them off in the Admin Console, and then restart Zimbra services using zmcontrol stop and start.

However, after it has been done, I'm getting the error below at zimbra.log:
    "Date Time postfix/lmtp[14897]: 612552475A: to=<bbb@xxx.com>, relay=none, delay=1033, status=deferred (connect to mail.xxx.com[x.x.x.x]: Connection refused)"

    I noticed /opt/zimbra/postfix/conf/main.cf has changed
    from: content_filter = smtp-amavis:[127.0.0.1]:10024
    to: content_filter =
    No changes on master.cf
    Anything I missed out?

    Many thanks.

    Hi Brian,

I able to disable anti-spam service by follow your instruction.
Now I would like to know how I'm going to resolve "(!)SA TIMED OUT" issue.

    I tried the following solution:
Disable Bayes auto-expiry, by adding 'bayes_auto_expire to 0' in /opt/zimbra/config/local.cf, and do nightly database expiration runs from crontab, su vscan -c 'sa-learn --force-expire --sync'.
But I still encountering the same error.

After the error came out a few times, the server hangs, normally it happened in the mid night. Any idea?

    Thanks.

    Rgds,
    Kimkeez
