Connection refused on 389? How do I troubleshoot?

To detect connection failure (using the hostname configured for the ldap server):
telnet ldaphostname 389
If this times out, or the connection is refused, there could be several causes.




Anyone know what these several causes are?

Is there a firewall between you and the Zimbra server (iptables, pix, etc)? If you do it from the local Zimbra server, do you get the same response?

If you do as the zimbra user: zmcontrol status, what do you get?

well obvious ones i would have thought would be:

1) slapd not running (ps -ef |grep slap)
2) firewall running (iptables -L, iptables -F to flush)

There is no firewall between client and machine. Same results exist when attempt is made to connect from local zimbra machine.

# ps -ef |grep slap

ESTABLISHED...

My host file contained a loop back entry instead of the static IP I set. Rectified. Thanks.
