Nextel - Direct Connect

There's this little cell phone company called Nextel... They use 'Direct Connect' numbers to contact each other via the 2-way radio.

We purchased your Network Edition, and your "Partner", NotifyLink for our sync solution for our BlackBerry devices. We've since found out that NotifyLink does not support the sync of Direct Connect numbers, because Zimbra doesn't have a field for them.

What gives? It's not like Nextel isn't world-wide or anything... NotifyLink told me that they have asked Zimbra about this in the past and nothing was done.

Are there plans to support Nextel Direct Connect numbers in the future?

We will be providing Blackberry support out of the box soon, without the need for a third part vendor.

What kind of field are they looking for?

Well, in Outlook, it's called "Radio". I'm assuming that there just needs to be a field that they can grab and sync. I asked if they could just grab any unused filed like Pager or Car... who uses a Pager anymore???

Anyway, they told me that they can't just use any filed and customize the installation for every one, as it would get too confusing.

Seems simple enough to me.

Things that seem the simplest can often be the most complicated.

I can't guarantee anything. We work on the voting system for features. The most voted on features make it to the releases soonest.

My advice would be to post the information you've provided me here, into the bugzilla as an enhancement, and vote on it.

I am a bit puzzled though, as to why there is no mention of this when I searched for 'Nextel' in the forums or Wiki.

Are we the only Zimbra users that use Nextel?

I don't think you're the only Nextel User here.
As a matter of fact, our whitepaper shows that they themselves switched to Zimbra (1mil + mailboxes)

Ok, so the Inventer of Direct Connect uses a solution that doesn't support it?

The whitepaper fails to mention that they actually migrated to Zimbra. The way I read it is that they moved from one platform to another and some one from the Zimbra team helped.

Get Notifylink to raise a case for this feature with Zimbra Support.
