Default Can I add a list contacts to the GAL

Can someone please let me know if this is possible or not ... thanks

We will be getting a very large list of contacts ( a dump from an exchange server in New Zealand ) that we need to the global address list.

Things to note:

1) These will NOT end up being accounts on our side
2) We DO NOT AND WILL NOT have access to the AD controller for the domain these are coming from (hence the dump)
3) I would prefer a script solution but any solution is better than none.

thanks

Is this going to be a permanent solution or will you eventually have access to their existing LDAP?

This is probably a bit over my head but one solution you could try is:

1. csv file your desired contacts
2. create a generic zimbra account
3. import the csv file into that accounts Contacts folder
4. Share the contacts folder to the rest of the company

Now a couple things I am not sure of:

1. Will a TO: field auto populate from a Shared Contacts folder?
2. Is there an easy way to add 20,000 users to a shared list?

Just a thought. Will have to see where it goes.

This will be the permanent solution as the two entities (companies) are separating. It may change but at this point with the heated language I doubt it.

This is what I was considering if there was not an alternate approach. I was wondering if there were ways of entering global contacts that are not tied to a user.

Sorry for this real NEWB question but how do you import a csv contact file? I looked into the web interface and I did not see anyway of importing contacts in this fashion. It seems to be one by one creation by hand.

thanks

Doug

You can create the user in the admin console and then log into that users webmail account. Then:

1. Goto the "Options" tab
2. Goto the "Address Book" tab
3. Part way down the page you will see the "Import" button
3. Click browse to find your .csv and then Import

You will also need to make sure that your maximum number of contacts is set appropriately to meet the needs of your .csv file. So if you are going to try importing 20K contacts you will need ensure your COS for the account will allow that many contacts.

Also I am not sure how the Import will behave with such a large contacts upload but it will be interesting.

How detailed are your contacts? Addresses, phone numbers...etc??

Thanks for helping. I still do not see it. Is this import capability governed by a property in a COS? If so our default may not allow it. I am logged in as the user and I clicked on address book tab and I do not see a thing. I even searched the page ofr import. We are running NE 4.5.4

I am not sure how detailed yet. I have not seen the format or the file but I do know we asked for everything.

thanks again

So your address book tab is completely blank?

No it is not empty but I do not see anything related to importing. I have a screenshot if I can find a way to get it to you.

Ahhh. OK. You need to click on your "OPTIONS" TAB first. In there is where you will see your "Address Book" TAB and from there your Import/Export buttons.

I can see by your screen shot that you are just clicking the Address book itself.

Check my previous post with the 1,2,3,4 steps listed.
