okay, i think i have found a bug.

    i made multiple test.

    1) I create a user in zimbra and in my active directory with the same password.
    - i can log in the webmail and in thunderbird with imap
    2) I changed the password (simple letters and numbers) of the user only in active directory
    - after a thunderbird restart, i can log both in thunderbird and webmail with the new password
    3) I changed the password (simple letters and special characters) of the user only in active directory
    - after a thunderbird restart, i can login the webmail but not in thunderbird...

so for now i use simple passwords... hope somebody read that

Check in bugzilla for that and if there's no bug report please file one and vote on it.
