Outbound MTAs on multi-server install

I have to be missing something simple here...

I have a setup with 3 machines.

Machine A - MTA/LDAP Master
Machine B - MTA/LDAP Replica
Machine C - Mailstore

Everything is working fine, except...if I take down machine A, machine c can not send mail outbound. How can I setup machine c to know about both MTAs and can use either one for outbound mail.

I was tasked to investigate the creation of a replica MTA server as well. Did you just install it on your own accord or is there documentation covering a master/replica install?

I think your answer might lie in the LDAP configuration. Have you dumped all the contents of the LDAP? You might find an attribute that specifies the default MTA and I would assume that you would then change that. I had an issue where I fat fingered the name of the MTA in one location and I was unable to send mail but when I corrected the servername in LDAP it started working.

I am a newb with this so I might be off base but hopefully if someone else sees my reply someone else will chime in to correct me.
