Hello,
I just received a request asking for an internal email address to be assigned to an intern. Can this be done in zimbra? How?
Thanks,
What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Do you mean an email address that can receive mail from the outside world, or can't send email to the outside world or both?
There's a lot of features that you can strip away from the Manage Addresses/User Account section in the admin console.
Thanks for your response. What i need is that this email address can send emails only to it's domain addresses and not to the outside world.
Thanks,
My guess would be no.
You might be able to block the user via your firewall but I have never seen anything in Zimbra that would enable you to pick and choose who can send mail externally. Basically if one person can anyone can because it is the Zimbra server that is responsible for resolving the external requests.
"Either we ALL wear our rain jackets, or we all DON'T wear our rain jackets!"
That was saying in the navy which meant someone forgot to bring their rain jacket so everyone had to take theirs off so we all matched.
I think Zimbra is of the same militaristic mentality.
"Either we ALL send outside email, or we all DON'T send outside email!"
I would look to your firewall for a solution.

Thanks! That's what i thought.
Ppl don't like the idea that he could be emailing someone confidential documents.
Is there a way to avoid him from sending attachments?
Thanks,
If you have the time, try this...

It should work, though you might have to permit everyone but the Intern, though once you setup the list it should be easy to update..
We had to do it for distribution lists.
In your specific case, everyone would be protected and everyone would be permitted, except the intern, and you might be able to wildcard the domain side, that I don't know, but that is what you want.

there's something in the bugs database.
see into the bugzilla to vote for this functionality
i have all mail copied to an "archiveall @ mydomain.com" email account for numerous reasons (via postifx always_bcc in main.cf)
interns have email accounts in the standard first initial last name address with ".intern" appended (e.g. "John Doe" jdoe.intern @ mydomain.com)
interns are instructed not to send email to external addresses
archiveall email account has a filter that flags any messages that meet ALL of the following:
email sent from address contains ".intern"
email sent to address does not contain "mydomain.com"
Doesnt stop it completely but allows monitoring of mail based on criteria
for instance i have other flags that check for words in the body of the message.. we are a finance firm and need to content check for certain keywords for compliance reasons
hope this helps
There have been numerous requests for this feature and at least one entry in bugzilla for it, yet it's still missing from the package and users are told to hack the underlying functions to enable it. These hacks are (unless I'm mistaken) undone with each upgrade to the newest release, it's now exactly an ideal situation.
When creating a new account, there are a great many options that can be selected for the account, I fail to see why we cannot have two more:
[ ] User can send email outside of his domain
[ ] User can recieve mail from outside his domain.
Simple, straigtforward and wont be erased by an upgrade.
