Auto forward mail from exchange to Zimbra

Hi there.
Imagine i have two separate domains:

- foo.com running MS Exchange
- foo.net running Zimbra.

Can i automatically forward *all* mail incoming to user@foo.com to user@foo.net ?
Of course this must be valid for all mail addressess in the organization .. from user1 to userxx.

Please note that this has to be a global rule and not a rule applied to single mailboxes.

I don't quite understand what forwarding all mail would achieve. Why not just replace the Exchange box with the Zimbra one? You can host multiple domains on a Zimbra server. Maybe a split-domain would be more what you need.

I need to forward because:

- i want all mail synchronized while i migrate from exchange to zimbra (for a while the two systems will have to run together)

- i cannot switch off all the accounts from exchange because of blackberries (dont tell me bout zimbra mobile, the corporate decision is: stick with exchange)

It's been a while since I used Exchange but I don't think as a general rule you can just forward all mail for each mailbox to another server with the same mailbox structure. I'd suggest the split domain set-up and migrate users on an 'as needed' basis to the Zimbra server using the migration wizard, remove the account or rename it then set exchange to forward mail for unknown recipients to Zimbra.

Hmm...this is a problem because the migration tools correctly copies mail and stuff from the exchange account .. but it's not able to copy the active directory authentication information ... so users wouldnt be able to log in zimbra using their usual domain password.

You could set up external authentication to point to your former AD server.

It remains to be seen if the forwarding task could be achieved.
Would be the preferred way to keep everything in sync before switching off the accounts on the exchange machine.

I'm not quite sure what you mean my being in sync.
If the exchange wizard has moved the accounts over, and you set the auth mech to AD in the admin ui, that *should* work.

I use *should* with the caveat that I don't know your setup. When ever you make a change like this, all the bugs like to come out

Whenever a mail arrives to foo.com , which is not forwarded to foo.net, the two accounts are not is sync.
Say i delete the mailbox from bar@foo.com -- is there a way to tell exchange "forward everything you cannot match to foo.net" ?

Search with google for

set exchange to forward mail for unknown recipients

or something similar. It might depend on the version of Exchange you're using but it can be done.
