Editing Attachments & Re-saving Them

I have a user who has some messages in his Drafts folder which contain attachments (Word & Excel files).

He's trying to open the attachment, make changes, and save it in place. By that, I mean he wants his changes to be reflected in the file which is attached to the message in his Drafts folder without having to save the file somewhere else and reattach it.

My hunch is that this is not possible, but I thought I post and see if anyone has figured a way of doing this.

This is not possible. The reason for this is the data for the attachment is stored on the Zimbra server and the processing of editing it would also have to push that altered data over to the Zimbra server as well, which Word and Excel won't do.
