Default Mails accumulating in deferred queue
My zimbra server's postfix main.cf has myhostname=mailserver1.holtecnet.local
Zimbra has 2 domains holtecnet.local & holtecnet.com. We are using zimbra to receive mails for holtecnet.com. When user sends a mail, it is actually relayed to another postfix server which further sends mail. I want to stop use of this external postfix server by stopping relay of mails and let zimbra send the mail.
So far so good. It works. But problem comes when a mail is received for which account do not exist on zimbra. This mail should be dropped, but it is placed in deferred queue. Perhaps zimbra thinks that some other server is also handling holtecnet.com domain and hence account may exists there.

Can solution to this problem be setting myhostname=mailserver1.holtecnet.com ?
As server is in production, I wanted to confirm this on forums before actually trying up .

I have disabled logger therefore, in following command output, logger is stopped

If you don't have a mailbox.log, then you are running an older version.
I'd reccomend an upgrade to 4.5.3

Also, here's your problem:
java.io.IOException: Connection reset by peer

Looks to me like you got something else running on your system.

I understand that present version 3.1.3 is obsolete. But we are not facing any problem with zimbra presently. May you please tell exactly what does this error indicates :

java.io.IOException: Connection reset by peer

What do you feel about my original problem of mail accumulation in deferred queue, on stopping relay of mails. Changing myhostname can help ?

Addressing your original problem:
I don't see a deffered message in your queue.
Can you post a segment of the log that indicates it?
It's probably gonna be in /var/log/zimbra.log

Default some misunderstanding
Hey ! There seems to be some misunderstanding. Messages are accumulating in deferred queue ONLY when I am stopping relay of mails from zimbra server to another postfix server in my network. In normal circumstances, as mails are relayed to other server, and it delivers it well, there is no mail accumulation in deferred queue. Things are fine, till I try stopping use of second server and make zimbra as sole whole incharge for domain holtecnet.com .

Mail accumulated in deferred queue when I did following :
1) stopped relay of mail by using zimbra web admin page in Global settings under MTA tab.
2) stopped postfix on second server which was used for external mail delivery.

On founding mails in deferred queue I tried :
1) giving mydestination paramenter in /opt/zimbra/postfix/conf/main.cf so that for domain holtecnet.com, zimbra becomes final destination.
2) Changing myhostname in /opt/zimbra/postfix/conf/main.cf from mailserver1.holtecnet.local to mailserver1.holtecnet.com

But these have not worked. I have reverted them back.

Don't edit the main.cf file directly. The changes will get overwritten when ever you start zimbra.
For more information on that, see the wiki and admin guide.

Have you tried
su - zimbra
postconf -e relayhost=

That will take the relay host out.
