    Unhappy Backup issues

I'm new (and green) zibra admin. I am trying to backup zimbra before performing an upgrade. As zimbra user and I am getting Permission denied errors for:

    /opt/zimbra/.saveconfig/smtp.crt
    /opt/zimbra/.saveconfig/smtp.key
    /opt/zimbra/Library

Is this something to be concerned about. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am nervous about doing this upgrade as I am new to zimbra

    Default

on my backups, i run /etc/init.d/zimbra stop
    then do a tar -cpP /opt/zimbra |gzip > mail_`date +%F`.tar.gz
finally push that off to a remote server
and the only thing i don't get are the dev's that get replaced if not present.

    I just do

    zmcontrol stop
    cp -rp /opt/zimbra /opt/zimbra_3_0

and got all these errors on permissions, should I do this as root?

    Yes,
if you copy/rsync/tar the files, you need to do so as root.
