Disappearing Sent Mail
Hello,
We have a client using mail.app using imap to connect to zimbra server. Every now and then he is having a sent message VANISH. He sends the email, then goes into the sent folder to look at it again, it appears there for a second and then disappears.
I have checked all the normal mail logs, but beyond the email being sent correctly and reaching all the recipients I am unable to see any sign of anything happening.
It is a 1 in 50 messages type of issue so is proving difficult to track down. My imeddiate feeling is that it is an issue with the client, but just thought I would post a message here to see if anybody has experience this in the past.
I have checked the following;
- NO RULES -> there are no rules on the client to act on messages
- It is not in the junk folder
- The message is 100% gone from the computer. NO trace
- Checked via the web interface and the message is not there either.
Does anybody have experience with logging IMAP either at the client side or at the server side ?
Any help would be appreciated.

Wow.
Now that's weird. Are the e-mails visible in the webui sent folder?

Do the other messages appear in the Sent folder? I assume he has the 'Save to Sent' option checked? Which client? I assume they all appear in the Sent folder when he uses the web ui? Anthything in the logs about the 'missing' message?

When we look in the WebUI sent folder there is nothing in there. Like I said before 98% of the time everything works as expected.
Using the maill application that comes with the mac (mail.app). You mention logs, what logs do you suggest we look at. Up until now I have only been looking at the SMTP logs which is not going to help much :o
I was wondering if I could check the message store directly on the server, but I have found the directory structure a little confusing.
My feeling is that this is a glitch on the client, but would be good to have a little more info than just a hunch.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

I would agree that this seems a client problem but I'm not sure how to debug it. When I said 'logs' I meant the Zimbra logs to see if there's any records of these messages hitting the server - look in /var/log/zimbra.log & /optzimbra/log/mailbox.log (if you have a MAC server then I'm not sure if they're in the same location).
Could there be any network/connection problems at the time this problem occurs? Is there anything predictable about the messages such as size or attachments? You could put a sniffer on the LAN and see if that throws-up anything (that's not my forte I'm afraid).

Bug 14497?
Is there a chance that this is bug 14497? Network Edition, the message that doesn't appear in Sent has a non-text attachment marked inline, there are errors in your convertd log?
