Default LMTP problem (amoung other things)

I'm having a problem with LMTP not starting.

I know all about the split DNS issues that have been addressed so let me explain first before someone instantly points out that, that is the problem.

domain:
mail.asdf.com
IP 192.168.1.101

I have a split dns so with i do a look up for mail.asdf.com i get 192.168.1.101 back.

All services appear to start however doing a telnet to mail.asdf.com on port 7025 gets a connection refused (even from the same machine). No firewall no selinux. Telnet to ports 25 993 10025 all return banners (sort of).

I've noticed this before on a few work servers. initially when i start the servers (no split dns) that lmtp won't work. We will typically have to shutdown zimbra then start it backup.

Also anytime ltmp won't connect I also get NO banners if I telnet to the POP and IMAP ports (if lmtp allows a connection works i get banners).

I look through the logs but i'm not seeing any errors besides the connection errors about not being able to connect to 192.168.1.101

ps awux returns nothing about lmtp either.

I realize I probably already know the answer to this, but can you post the output of
netstat -an | grep 7025

[root@iris ~] netstat -an | grep 7025
[root@iris ~]

Like I said I don't believe this is a firewall issue (DNS possible i suppose though i'm suprised that would prevent the service from starting).

However like I mentioned there is a def corrolation with lmtp not starting and not getting banners on the pop3 and imap daemons.
