Default Importing a CSV with 1000 contacts is very SLOW

Hi, I tried to import a 1000 contacts in a CSV file via webui.
And... it's very slow. After 3/4 minutes Zimbra as not yet finished.
My system is a pentium IV 2,8Ghz and 2 GB of RAM.

I've filed this bug:

http://bugzilla.zimbra.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14331

please vote for it.

How about putting some information in the bug report about how long 'very, very, very slow' actually is and if it ever finished how long it took.

OK. I'll try: (added to bugreport, too.)

The steps I did were:

1. Generated a 1000 contacts CSV file (name, surname, e-mail);
2. Imported into via WEB GUI interface (Options -> Contacts -> Import CSV file)
3. Click Import

on a Pentium IV 2,8Ghz - 1GB RAM and Firefox 2.0 after 4 minutes Zimbra hasn't
finished to import contacts.

It should be faster.

Yes, but does it ever finish and how long does it take to complete?

er ... i quite do not know, I "killed" firefox after 4 minutes... too bad it doesn't have a progress bar (bug #13134, I voted for this, too.)

Well, I don't know about you but I don't think 3-4 minutes to import 100 contacts is a long time. Try it again and see how long it actually takes.

If the server is on lan then is a lot of time. I don't know exactly how the csv zimbra import is built but i guess they are uploading the csv file and then using the infile mysql command.

It should not freeze the browser.

I'm curious, if you are using Firefox -- if your CPU gets maxed out while doing this. Maybe you are running into a similar problem as discussed in this thread.

Have you tried the same action in Internet Explorer (if you are using Windows) and see if that works any faster?
