User rights on shared Address book does not seem to work?

Hello,

- I created two users account (A and B), selected default settings for creating the users. Both user accounts are non administrative.

- Created an Address Book in Account B.

- Shared the address book as "Public" i.e. read only.

Now here come the issues:
- I could see B's shared address book in account A. But I could also delete the contents of the address book and even the address book itself from A. It should not happen. isn't it?

- I tried creating a read only public shared calendar and editing from other accounts, it was editable.

- For some unknown reason, now, if I create a public shared address book, I can not see that in other user accounts .

All above tests were done one after the other, without any change in installation and configuration etc.

What possibly I am doing wrong? For sharing I click right mouse button on the Address Book --> "Edit Properties" --> "Public" --> "Ok".

Also, how to share an address book or calendar as read only?

(OS: Ubuntu 6.06, Zimbra 4.5, Browser: Firefox 2)

What happens instead of sharing the address book as public you share it as internal for that specific user?

If they are both Zimbra users you should use the 'Internal' option and then 'Viewer' option. This will then invite the other user to view your address book.

Sorry for replying late.
Yes both are Zimbra users, but I do not want only two (or 'n') users to be able to view the addressbook. I want "All" users to be able to view it, and only few to be able to edit it. I was actually trying to follow an approach discussed in this thread, which (I suppose) worked on earlier version of Zimbra, but is not working on version 4.5.

I haven't upgraded to version 4.5 yet, but I am running 4.0.3 and I have several address books (and calendars) that have 10-15 members, with read only for most users and 2-3 users have full admin rights. So far no problems with it.

Is that what you are trying to accomplish?

Yes, I want to accomplish the same. I am assuming that making an address book public (as read only) should eliminate the need of sending invitations to individual users (am I right here?). For adding mangers for the address book, invitations can be sent. Do you see it the same way? or please suggest.
