It is going to fail for the same reason -- Cron does not inherit environment variables in .bashrc, so Amavis will not be able to find the zimbra shipped modules. Please see if my proposed solution above resolves the problem.

    Hi,

    Okay, after a little testing:

    adding:
    Code:
    31 17 * * * . /opt/zimbra/.bashrc; /opt/zimbra/bin/zmamavisdctl start
For the sole purposes of finding out if zmamavisdctl will successfully start the service (1 minute in future):

    Code:
    [zimbra@mail ~]$ crontab -e
    crontab: installing new crontab
    [zimbra@mail ~]$ /opt/zimbra/bin/zmamavisdctl stop
    Stopping amavisd... done.
    [zimbra@mail ~]$ /opt/zimbra/bin/zmamavisdctl status
    amavisd is not running.
    [zimbra@mail ~]$ /opt/zimbra/bin/zmamavisdctl status
    amavisd is not running.
    [zimbra@mail ~]$ /opt/zimbra/bin/zmamavisdctl status
    amavisd is running.
    And.. it successfully started!

So chances are, it will work.

I'll now swap that out for:
    Code:
    45 0 * * * . /opt/zimbra/.bashrc; /opt/zimbra/libexec/zmsaupdate
and see if it everything restarts successfully tonight, and let you know the results

    Thanks quanah!

Testing with quanah patch, without further mods.

    Finger crossed :-)

    OK!

Ladies n' Gents are you ready?!

    *Drum Roll*

    ...
    ...
    ...

    01:00am:
    Code:
    [zimbra@mail ~]$ /opt/zimbra/bin/zmamavisdctl status
    amavisd is running.
    Deferred Messages:
    Code:
    0
    And...

    Zimbra Settings:

    Code:
    antispam_enable_restarts = true
    antispam_enable_rule_updates = true
    And so...

I think it worked! I'll keep an eye on it for the next 24-hours just to confirm if there was, or was not any antispam updates today.. but none the less, everything is up after 00:45

But it appears the issue may indeed be fixed using quanah's fix
