Default Reuse a message store volume

I have two message stores, message1 and message2. Message2, the current volume, is approaching capacity, while message1 has now shrunk way down. Because I am in the midst of an upgrade and rearchitecting of our system, I don't wish to add a 3rd message volume if I can avoid it at this point in the game. So, I was wondering if it is safe to reset message1 as the current store (so that message1 would have the oldest and newest messages, while message2 would have the tweeners.)

The system in question is running Zimbra 7.2.2 running CentOS 5.8 (yes, I know that CentOS was not officially supported by 7.2.2 - pretend I said Redhat; it works for everything else.)

Yep! You can switch back and forth as needed.
