what is the meaning of "Deferrals" in this deferred mails in Daily Mail Report?

1012 deferred (81440 deferrals)

Mail that couldn't be delivered. But, the server will try for up to 5 days before giving up.

If, while in the admin portal, you hover your mouse over one of them, you'll get the reason why it can't deliver in a bubble window. Typically, they are bounce back message or the destination mail server is timing out.
