Hello:
I am tasked with seeing what it would take to update our spamassassin filters on our Zimbra server.
"It's been letting through a lot of crap lately." says The Boss and I am unclear how to verify what he may be 'seeing' as 'crap'.
Sorry for the language.
Some facts about the host:
This is perl, v5.8.8 built for i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi
Linux cirrhus9b 2.6.16-xenU #14 SMP Wed Nov 23 08:48:06 EST 2011 i686 GNU/Linux
zmcontrol -v status
Release 5.0.18_GA_3011.UBUNTU8 UBUNTU8 FOSS edition
What I seem to gather from cursory queries at google via "site:zimbra.com" is that sa-update is not included with this release and I could not find it.
While I do have a /opt/zimbra/conf/spamassassin/sa-update-pubkey.txt
No biggie. It seems that I can download new rules|filters from here... and this post suggests I can download them and use an include directive so I may stick them in a sub-directory of my choosing. And I am unsure how to do that exactly, or what edits to make.
SpamAssassinRules - Spamassassin Wiki suggests that I can edit /opt/zimbra/conf/spamassassin/local.cf
I found many versions of rules here...
Can I arbitrarily pick any rule set to download?
I am currently reviewing:
Improving Anti-spam system - Zimbra :: Wiki
CustomRulesets - Spamassassin Wiki
SpamAssassinRules - Spamassassin Wiki
WhereDoLocalSettingsGo - Spamassassin Wiki
says "Type "man Mail::SpamAssassin::Conf" for details of what you can configure, and how to do it.
However, perldoc is NOT installed.
So, in summary:
How can I as a root or zimbra user 'see' what my boss is calling 'crap'?
How can I update my spamassassin rules|filters manually?
Are they any key subjects here that I should be aware of?
Thank you for your time.
Edit0:
Not sure if it's a moderation issue or not but I hit reply to update this and it didn't update the post.
So edit it is.
Q: So is it ok to update manually by downloading all *.cf files from a channel and copy it to /opt/zimbra/conf/spamassassin ?
A: Yes that is no problem at all ... just ensure the file permissions and ownership are correct.
Thank you all for your time,
JJ
