Default Zimbra MS Office document management..

    Hi,

I haven't really found 'deep diving' demos of Zimbra's document management features. There are quite a few showing how to simply upload, share and download to / from Briefcase. But our staff here wonders if they can open a .docx file from Briefcase, edit it in Word and simply save the edited document back to the Briefcase in Zimbra. Just as they do with any document on a file server.

A LMS we use (It's Learning) uses Microsoft's Active-X control DirectEdit to achieve this, but I just wonder which support and possibilities Zimbra has with regards of editing and saving of Office files.

What about the situation when two users open the same document at the same time. How does Zimbla handle these situations?

Thanks a lot for comments, info and link to demo sessions covering these areas...

    best regards Tor

    Hi,

I'm wondering the same things. I have the same problem with MS office document integration with Zimbra and still not found any solution.

    Any help?

I will be grateful for any help you can provide

Very thank you for your reply Alessandro, video you posted was very useful.

As you can see, when clicking on a office document, it's shown with its preview.

My problem is that I can't see it. It's only permitted download or open selected document and it's impossible make a full-text search (may be both things are related).

    Greetings.

From the briefcase, try clicking "View" from the menů bar, and change the preview display mode.
    Preview is disabled by default.

I can see Preview Area, but it doesn't display anything. I don't know if it's a matter of plugins or may be compatibility with MSoffice 2007.

Which Zimbra version do you have? I don't think is a compatibility issue with office 2007 because i'm able to view word 2007 docs.
To test if it's a plugin problem (do you mean browser plugin right?) did you tried from a different browser, or even from a different PC and see if the problem persists?

    Thanks again for you reply!!
I'm testing Zimbra version 8.03, virtualized on VMware and tried on Mozilla 21, Ie 9, Chrome (can't remember which version is) on Windows 7 (on different Pcs) and Windows XP (with different version of the browsers). I'm going to test the same on Mountain Lion with Office 2011 installed

You're right, the preview is working fine in my production environment based on Zimbra 7.2.3, but it doesn't work on my test Zimbra 8.0.4, it makes me download the doc as i click on it without showing the preview.
