    Default Zimbra Configuration Problem

    Hi,
I am new to Zimbra suite. I have Ubuntu 8.04LTS and installed ZCS 7.0.2 version. But I dont have registered domain only public IP from my ISP. I have connected my zimbra box under my DHCP server.

Where I can send mails to Gmail, yahoo, rediff, hotmail.

    Prob:
But cant send mails to other domains like vsnl.net, spcl.in, saharanext.com, etc.

I am getting deferred in zimbra.log file:

    Aug 17 10:13:45 mail postfix/smtp[16885]: 3F7A417C2E0 : to=<murugesan.kumar@saharanext.com>, relay=mail.domain.com[public ip of saharanext.com]:25, delay=1.7, delays=0.04/1.2/0.49, dsn=5.0.0, status=bounced (host mail.domain.com[ip add] said:554 refused mailfrom because return MX does not exist (in reply to MAIL from command))

And only I can receive mails from Zimbra to zimbra. Other than that mail is not received form any other domain.
    For example:

Getting error: DNS not found in Gmail box when I try to send to zimbra domain.

    Any help would be appreciated.

What would you expect to happen in these circumstances? How do you expect mail to get to your server when, as you've said in the highlighted text, you don't have a registered domain name?

The answer to your question is all over the forums, you need to set-up a Split DNS.

I installed bind9 with Ubuntu 8.04 server. Did Split DNS article specify the same ubuntu version?

If yes my named.conf.options file entirely differed from Split DNS named.conf.options file?

    Pl clarify the same.

Read the article in detail, it tells you what you need to configure for a Split DNS and there's a section on how to verify the settings are correct.

I have verified the settings as specified in Split DNS article.

    I have done
    dig yourdomain.com mx
    dig yourdomain.com any
    host $(hostname)

    Also I verified
    cat /etc/resolv.conf
    cat /etc/hosts

    Please provide me the support.

You actually need to provide the output from those commands to show that they are, in fact, correct. merely telling us that it's OK doesn't necessarily mean it is.
