The mail server was fine for more than a year. For some reason, it stopped working some weeks ago (around the leap-secound event 2012), although there was no configuration change on either zimbra or the operation system and no user connected for more than 4 months. Needless to say, the dns configuration and /etc/hosts where also not changed.

I tried to restart the server without success:
Code:
zimbra@server:~$ zmcontrol startup
Host domain.net
Unable to determine enabled services from ldap.

First, i checked the deployed certificates on the server, but there were valid for two more weeks. Nonetheless, i replaced them with new, self signed certs:

Code:
server:/# /opt/zimbra/bin/zmcertmgr viewdeployedcrt

Still, zimbra was unable to start. So, i upgraded the zimbra installation from 6.0.x to 6.0.15 to get the latest patchlevel.
The package updates where successfull, but there where ldap connect errors in the log, like:
Code:
javax.naming.CommunicationException: localhost:389 [Root exception is java.net.ConnectException: Network is unreachable]
Therefore, i started to debug the ldap:

o test name resolution

Code:
zimbra@server:~$ host localhost
localhost has address 127.0.0.1
o manually start ldap:
Code:
sh -x bin/ldap start
o test connection
Code:
zimbra@server:~$ telnet 127.0.0.1 389
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to 127.0.0.1.
Escape character is '^]'.
Code:
zimbra@server:~$ nmap -sV -p 389 127.0.0.1

Starting Nmap 5.00 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2012-08-15 17:35 CEST
Interesting ports on localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1):
PORT STATE SERVICE VERSION
389/tcp open ldap OpenLDAP 2.2.X

So, the ldap seems to be up and reachable, but zimbra is unable to connect:

Code:
zimbra@server:~$ zmprov gaa
[] INFO: I/O exception (java.net.ConnectException) caught when processing request: Network is unreachable
[] INFO: Retrying request
ERROR: zclient.IO_ERROR (invoke Network is unreachable, server: localhost) (cause: java.net.ConnectException Network is unreachable)
Does anyone have a hint what to check next?

Thanks,
Hawkeye.
