Default Trying to resolve 7025 connection error resulted in server that cannot start

    Hi All

I had Zimbra operational and opened the SMTP port to allow it to handle email. Zimbra received the email and it was placed in the deferred queue, giving the message

    postfix/lmtp ... deferred ... connection refused

I tried to resolve the issue by running the command on the wiki

    zmlocalconfig -e postfix_lmtp_host_lookup=native

But afterwards the mail server would not start. I performed a reboot (following the age old Restart, Reboot, Reinstall cycle) and afterwards none of the services would start up. I have since set up the Split DNS, but I am still getting errors

    zimbra@postoffice:~$ zmcontrol status

Can someone please point me in a direction to try or should I just reinstall?

    Thanks in advance

    Is any additional information required?

What do you mean by "opened the SMTP port"? Do you have another version of postfix running on this system?

I have a mailserver elsewhere on the LAN. I repointed the firewall rule to point to the ZImbra server from the existing server

Oh OK, that makes sense. Is the 'zmlocalconfig' command the only thing you changed, and the services were running OK prior to that? I would try 'zmcontrol stop' and then 'zmcontrol start', and then check the logs immediately after that. Something certainly doesn't seem right.

Are there particular logs I should be looking at?

    I'm assuming the

    Host localhost

Is showing there is something wrong, but I can't quite figure out why

So, in your OP you said you have "since set up the Split DNS"? Can you go into a little more detail on this. Did you change the host-name and/or IP address of the server after the initial install? I hate to say it, but if this is a new install I'd consider starting from scratch.

The logs I would look at are /var/log/messages, /var/log/maillog, and files in /opt/zimba/logs.

The IP address stayed constant - I set up the Split DNS as perscribed in the Wiki page. I think I'll rebuild. Thanks for your help

It's usually best to have the DNS stuff squared away before doing the install, because the install will look at the DNS and how it resolves the host-name. That's why I'm thinking something got messed up when you setup Split DNS after the fact. Good luck with the re-install. Post more questions if you run into issues.
