    Default Hotmail/MSN/Live.com blocking server IP (550 SC-001)

    Hi guys,

Hotmail and other Microsoft companies started blocking our mail server IP rejecting all e-mails sent to them. We do not send spam nor have mailing lists but somehow the blocked us all the same.

I've contacted Microsoft Support but they simply won't help. Our ISP is not responding either so we are all alone facing this problem.

I thought I could setup the Zimbra server to use another unblocked SMTP server while we wait for the Microsoft Technical Support to add our IP/Domain to their Whitelist.

    Is this possible?

    Thank you in advance,

    Pancho

    Hi Pancho,

You should be able to change your relay server in the Zimbra Admin GUI under Server settings and the MTA tab ("Relay for external delivery").

    Thank you Paul.

I saw the option but do I need to set up all the accounts in the other server or just add the IP address of the current server to the trusted networks in the new one?

I'd like to make it as transparent for the user as it can be.

    Hi again,

It depends on how things are setup. Here, we use the relay host for outbound spam filtering, not for routing through a different ISP. All mail from Zimbra passes through that outbound host (to block spam if an account is compromised). That relay does not require the Zimbra server to authenticate, it accepts (but checks for spam) all mail coming from Zimbra.

If you were using this to relay to an ISP, that I'm not sure about unfortunately. The documentation or other posts on the forum may be more helpful for that case.

    Paul,

Today Hotmail unblocked our server's IP so no change is necessary.

    Thank you for your help,

    Pancho
