Read the articles in the forums and wiki on how to take a backup of your server and use one of those procedures to take regular backups (and store them offsite), Try all the backup solutions and also practice how to do a disaster recovery then use the procedure that's most comfortable ffor you to use.

Saving your backup data on local machine isn't the best solution. You can follow any backup strategy by community or take a look at a commercial solution like ZeXtras
