Save Page As ...

Hi , we have a problem where we can't properly save a zimbra e-mail web page ...

In mozilla , we go to menu File ... Save Page As ... we save the page but when we open the saved page it is jumbled mess and all the icons etc. are stored in a separate folder ... same thing in Internet Explorer ... anyone know what this is about ?

Save Page As works with static pages, but with ZWC, there is a lot of dynamically generated code so SPA may not work as you would think..

What exactly are you trying to save?

Select mesage ( double left click on message ), "Right click" "Print" on the correct message, the print dialog will appear, cancel the print dialog that comes up and you should be left with a page that you can then "right click" somewhere on the page itself and then "save as" to provide a file name and place and viola.

Thanx Guys ... I want to save an e-mail with the attachments and links preserved similar to what would be done by saving an outlook express e-mail ... I did try hitting the print icon and saving but it doesn't preserve the attachments or links . But good enough for now unless you have any other suggestions .

You can also save them as .eml files for viewing in your favorite pop3/imap client:
Right click on message
choose Show Original
File->Save Page as (change the ext to .eml)

That totally worked! Even saved all of the attachments in the message as well!

That is a neat tip ... unfortunately we are not using any other client . But it's good if we want to save it for some unforeseen future use .

How were you saving messages AND attachments before Zimbra?

Does this requirement come up often?
Outlook Express is on every windows machine so, you already have a built in reader. ( shrug ) Right?

I guess I'm not sure what you are trying to do as the overall requirement.
Are you trying to get users to remove their messages from the server onto their workstations to free up space on the server or more for on the road access kinda thing?

I'm Network Admin ; one of my client users wants to save his e-mails as a file ... for what reason I don't know . I do know that in Outlook Express I can save my e-mail as a file by just dragging the e-mail to my hard drive . This is the functionality we are looking for . But looks like not doable .

The attachments are stored in the message in MIME format or text.

There once was a young, inexperienced tech guy living in Tombstone AZ.

A while back, I...I mean he toasted our district-wide e-mail server (and all accounts) by running the rm -rf /opt/zimbra backups/(date) command. (This was in the very early days of Zimbra. I think was running either the 1st or 2nd milestone of their first GA release) Ahh the good old days.

As you can tell, I put a space instead of the "/"

I erased everything, even though it was running. Marc (MarcMac) and I managed to gather a couple of messages. This was because mysql & tomcat were still (oddly) running, so the webui was active (sort of).

This way, I was able to pull the messages into outlook, thus salvaging a couple files.

Another tip is that (only use if you have a complete failure of all systems, and you won't be able to recover) is to sftp the /opt/zimbra/store to a windows machine. The messages in the store are also in MIME format. Theoretically, you could recover all of your messages, as long as the store isn't toast. The questions would be, whose messages are they?

You'd have to open the message, and view who it's to.

So back to the story. Our district (as most others are) was involved in litigation, and the messages I erased where subpoenaed.

I was cited for obstruction of justice for erasing them.

Several weeks later, we invested in the Network Edition, for which I am a HUGE advocate.
