Default cant change user passwd via web interface

Hi all. Im not able to change my password via web interface.

Im using a different LDAP for storing the user passwords, so the auth configuration says:

    Method: external LDAP
    ldap url: ldap://192.168.100.252 ##
    ldap filter: uid=%u
    ldap base search: ou=People,dc=ldap,dc=fmed,dc=uba,dc=ar

Now, users can log in to and using the email without a problem.
But when thei want to change the password, it does not complain about nothing, but the password remains intact.

The logs in the ldap server shows nothing about modify any entry.

    [Edit]
In the ldap server, i allow user to write its own entry:

    access to dn.subtree="ou=People,dc=ldap,dc=fmed,dc=uba,dc=ar "
    by self write

So here is actually the question: Can i write my own changepass script (im a python programmer, it will be no problem to write my own changepass script)?

    Or maybe some other sugestions?

    Thank you all.

    Gerardo
