Default How to find the originating IP address?

    Hi all,

One of my users has received an email and it's regarding a security investigation. This may or may not be scam so I was tasked by someone in our security department to find out what the originating IP address is. Can you please shed some lights on this?

    Thanks in advance,
    t

If you don't recognise who it's from then it's probably fake.

Look at the headers of the email (show original).

    Thanks much for the info.

I've noticed the amount of junk emails have been increased in the past couple of months or so. Is there anyway I could do something to make the spam protector work more efficiently?

    Thank you

Upgrade to the current version and read the wiki article (and some of the forums threads) on improving the anti-spam system.

If you want to find Ip address of an email id these are the following steps....
Select the email received from the client
    Locate the message header
Finding the Ip address depends upon the email(Yahoo,Gmail etc...) you use...
If you have mentioned the email provider you are using, it would have been easily to guide you with more steps. You can make use of Google.com to find detailed steps.
After locating the client ip address you can make use of Ip-details.com to know the location,ISP,latitude and longitude..... This will work only if the Ip address is assigned for a single person(Static Ip).
