Contacts from Thunderbird

I would like to access (read\write\modify) my contacts from zimbra via thunderbird. Can someone point me in the right direction to get this set up?

I assume this has to have been discussed before, but I was unable to find it.

The ability to read and write to contact cards is not yet in Thunderbird. Its a feature of Thunderbird 2 (Currently in beta) Thunderbird Beta 2 website

I am yet to try it using Zimbra yet - but it works fine to and SLAPD on a Gentoo box

There's an open enhancement request for a Thunderbird "conduit" to enable 2-way sync of contacts from Thunderbird (bug 10572). Please vote for it if you'd like to see it implemented!

it would be nice to see a thunderbird/evolution connector simliar to that of the Outlook one. I know, if this feature were available I would quickly transfer my clients off Outlook. A feature like this would also help to lower the cost of software for smaller businesses, which I think is one of the pursuits of OSS.
