ldap password still shows old one after changing

when I run :
zmlocalconfig -s zimbra_ldap_password ldap_master_url
it returns the old password...

even though when I run :
/opt/zimbra/openldap/bin/ldapmodify -x -h
to change it, i must put in the newer value to make it work,
however, getting a
[LDAP: error code 49 - Invalid Credentials]
and nothing is running... no fun during the day certainly...
